CoronaVirus Prevention Tips 2

 COLD AND FLU – 2

NATURAL TREATMENT

The immune system’s defenses against infection are what eventually overcome the viruses responsible for nose colds and flu. These natural treatments strengthen the defenses.

When prevention has not worked and a cold has finally begun, the infection has to run its course. It is the body’s defenses –not antibiotics- that cause colds, as well as restore the nasal and respiratory mucosa. If the cold is not complicated by sinusitis, otitis, pneumonia or asthmatic bronchitis, these are simple natural remedies that can generally fight the infection, strengthen the nasal mucosa and promote a speedy recovery.

HYDRATION AND REST

Drink plenty of fluids and rest at home, for at least three days.

NATURAL TREATMENTS

These are the most effective in relieving nose colds and flu (see “Natural Treatments for the Nose”):

Irrigation of the nasal passages.

Facial steam bath.

Soaking feet in hot water.

Inhaling antiviral aromatic essences such as lavender and common thyme.

VITAMIN C

Vitamin C is necessary for immune system health. It can be taken as supplements, in addition to increasing fruit consumption in general, especially oranges, lemons, and other citrus fruits, kiwi and dog rose.

BETA-CAROTENE

Vegetable beta-carotene or pro-vitamin A is a natural colorant in many fruits and vegetables, which has an intense antioxidant effect. In the body, beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A, which is needed for the good health of the cells of the mucosa.

A glass of carrot juice a day during a cold guarantees the supply of vitamin A. Mangos, squash, oranges and spinach are also good sources of the antioxidant carotenoids that are converted into vitamin A.

GARLIC AND ONION

It has been shown that garlic and onion essences eliminate viruses; in addition, they are antioxidants and immunostimulants (they boost the defenses).
